Preliminary Questions

Important Notice:- We will not be able to take your Notice of Marriage unless you have booked the venue for your marriage ceremony first. See point 3 below:-

If you attend your appointment and you have not booked the venue where you want to marry, your Notice appointment may not be able to go ahead.

A Notice of Marriage is a legal process where you give information to the Superintendent Registrar, declaring your intention to be married, without this (for a marriage in England and Wales) you cannot be legally married.

Please Note: The online appointment booking service is only available for British Citizens at present and has limited availability.   1. The maximum notice period you can give is 12 months, the minimum is 29 days, before the legal paperwork (Schedule) for your ceremony is issued .
  2. You can only give Notice in the Registration District in which you live.
  3. You must know the exact venue details where your ceremony is taking place, before you give a Notice of Marriage. Please ensure you have made a provisional booking with the venue of your choice and also the Registrars for the district where your marriage is to take place (if applicable) before continuing to make your appointment with us.
  4. You will need official documentation. At a Notice appointment each partner has to appear in person and will be asked to prove their name, address, nationality and that they are free to marry - no-one can represent them on their behalf. Failure to bring the correct documentation may result in your appointment being re-scheduled.

There is a statutory notice fee of £42 per person to pay, at your appointment.  We accept Cash (if its the correct amount), Debit or Credit Card.

You will see a final CONFIRMATION page at the end of making your booking, please read through this information carefully as it contains a list of the required documentation that you will need to bring to your appointment.
